What do we do...
Our self offering
School
Our school, the Convent of Our Lady of Victories is situated in Moratuwa. Our foundress sent missionary sisters to Sri Lanka to begin the English School at the request of the Bishop of the Archdiocese. Today it has more than 2200 students, and over 100 staff members, providing a catholic education to the young girls of the area.
Boarding Schools
At the beginning, these were orphanages. Now these have become Boarding Schools for children who are underprivileged.
Jeewanie Boarding - in Moratuwa
St. Theresa's Boarding - in Batticaloa
St. Gabriel's Boarding - in Hatton
Pre-Schools
Through our pre-schools, we give formal education, and this becomes a means for us to reach out to the families, and educate parents about how to bring up their children, imparting values to the children.
We have pre-schools in Borella, Negombo, Polonnaruwa, Mahiyangana, Kaluwankerny, Mudalakuliya, Madulkele, Minneriya, Hatton.
Hostels
St. Anthony's hostels (3) provides accommodation for the students who are doing higher studies and for the girls who are working.
Through this ministry, we do youth apostolate, getting involved with the lives of these young girls, accompanying them in whatever we could, and giving them a value formation.
Workrooms
To uplift the lives of women and promote their human dignity, was the dream of our dear Foundress when starting the workrooms.
We have two workrooms,
in Borella and Batticaloa
Franciscan Products
Nuwara-Eliya and Piliyandala are the towns where we produce jams, chutneys, wines, etc. with minimum use of food preservatives. St. Anthony's Convent, Borella and St. Hermine's Convent, Negombo are also outlets for these products.
The above is an income-generating project for the Province, while at the same time we provide employment to poor girls.
Abhimani
Through this ministry, we reach out to women and girls who have been abused in different ways. The sister-in-charge, through the generosity of benefactors and many organizations, offer financial assistance to these women and girls, empowering them with self-help projects. The children who need financial help for their studies are also helped.
A sister from each community is named as a member of this committee to help in the above ministry.
Leper Apostolate
With the assistance and the direction of SUROL, we continue this great ministry for the Patients who are affected with the Hansen disease. Sisters in different communities reach out to Hansen patients in the area.
Catechetical and
Pastoral work
Wherever we are inserted, we do the mission of the church. We get involved in catechizing the people of God, and in the various activities in the local church. We visit families, giving importance to the family apostolate.
Teaching in Private and Government Schools
There are a few sisters who are government- appointed teachers in different parts of the country. There are also sisters who are teaching in government schools in rural area as voluntary teachers.
FMM Lay Associates
Sharing our FMM Charism with lay people is taking root in many of the areas where we are inserted. Participating in our prayer life, and in our mission, they respond to their call to be
FMM Lay Associates.
Counselling Services
Counselling, especially trauma-counselling is a relevant ministry responding to the signs of the times. Our sisters who are specialized in this field continue this mission.
Home Gardening
Our communities give importance to home-gardens, which provide vegetables for our communities, and also are a source of income. This is also an opportunity to promote organic cultivation.
Eucharistic Ministry
St. Anthony's Convent in Borella also has as its ministry to promote our Eucharistic charism by providing the opportunity for the lay people to visit our chapel for Eucharistic adoration and for visits throughout the morning.
Prison Ministry
"I was in prison and you came to visit me "
(Mt 25:36)
We make our Mother Foundress' vision and her missionary approach to prisoners our own.
We take care of their spiritual life, encouraging them to participate in the Holy Eucharist. We give importance to quality listening. We keep contact with their families, and help them in whatever way we can. We prepare them to receive their loved ones when they are freed from prison, and be re-united with them. We also help the prisoners to be re-inserted once again in society.
Inter-faith dialogue
We participate in the various meetings and together we discuss how to bring about peace, harmony, reconciliation, mutual appreciation and understanding, among all the faiths, especially through a dialogue of Life.
