Our Foundress, Blessed Mary of the Passion sent 6 sisters to Sri Lanka, in 1886, in response to an invitation from the then Bishop Mgr. Bonjean. He had requested for sisters to begin an English medium Catholic Girls’ School in Moratuwa. Ever since this 1st foundation, more requests came in from the various Bishops of the country. At present we are in 9 dioceses, in the North, South, East and West, and in the central hill regions. Wherever we are inserted, we render our services, "being all things to all people" (in the words of St. Paul), whether in the field of education, health, social, pastoral, integral development projects, etc. Our missionary charism is a call from God challenging us through the signs of the time to be attentive to the needs of a changing world and to the requests and needs of both the universal and particular Church .... (Const. 37).
